GR®223 Normandy coast
From Honfleur (Calvados) to Mont St Michel (Manche)

As hikers traverse its paths, they discover remnants of the medieval era, such as the ports and ancient churches that line the coast. Honfleur, famous for its Old Basin, has inspired many artists, including Claude Monet. Continuing westward, one passes through historically rich towns like Trouville and Deauville, known for their Belle Époque villas and their rich seaside heritage. Mont-Saint-Michel, the highlight of this hike, is a masterpiece of medieval architecture. The diversity of natural environments along the GR®223 supports a rich fauna and flora. Marshes, dunes, and cliffs serve as habitats for many species, including migratory birds in the wetlands, notably avocets and mallards. The Normandy coastline is also a refuge for harbor seals, often spotted on the rocks during low tide. The coastal dunes host plants adapted to harsh conditions, such as thrift and glasswort.
