Tour of Coutances to the Sea (Manche) |
Starting from the episcopal city of Coutances, in the heart of the Cotentin peninsula, dominated by the bold spires of its Gothic cathedral, the route descends towards the Sienne River to cross the Pont de la Roque bridge. The landscape then opens onto the Regnéville harbor, a constantly shifting natural space where land and sea intertwine, leading hikers to the Agon Point Lighthouse. This solitary structure watches over a wild expanse of dunes and salt marshes, offering a 360-degree panorama of the Chausey archipelago on a clear day. Continuing up the coast, the route passes the seaside elegance of Coutainville and its Belle Époque villas. The walk continues towards Pirou, famous for its 12th-century fortified castle surrounded by a moat, a true jewel of Norman heritage. The path finally enters the bocage countryside of Muneville-le-Bingard before returning to Coutances.
