Le GR®965, long de 405 km, est un pèlerinage en mémoire des Huguenots, des protestants français persécutés au XVIIe siècle. En 1685, l’édit de Fontainebleau a révoqué l’édit de Nantes, qui avait accordé aux protestants une certaine liberté religieuse. Les Huguenots ont alors été contraints de se convertir au catholicisme ou de fuir la France. Plus de 200 000 d’entre eux ont choisi l’exil, cherchant refuge dans d’autres pays européens tels que l’Allemagne, les Pays-Bas, la Suisse et l’Angleterre. L’exode des Huguenots vers les pays protestants pour échapper aux persécutions est un événement majeur de l’histoire européenne. De 1560 à 1760, cette diaspora a concerné plus de deux cent mille Huguenots, qui ont pris le chemin de l’exil par fidélité à leur foi.
