From Bez Pass (Ardeche) to Barre-des-Cevennes (Lozere)

The GR72 follows the watershed, linking the granite plateaus of the Ardèche to the schist ridges of the Lozère, in the heart of the Cévennes National Park. Heir to a thousand-year history, the route follows ancient transhumance trails and medieval roads that were once crucial for the salt and wine trade. The landscapes unfold with striking diversity: from the dense forests of La Bastide-Puylaurent to the fortified village of La Garde-Guérin, overlooking the Chassezac gorges. After a stop at Lake Villefort, the path climbs towards the granite boulders of Mont Lozère. Crossing the Tarn at Pont-de-Montvert, hikers finally walk in the footsteps of the Camisards.
