Crossing Paris (West-East)From the Bois de Boulogne to the Bois de Vincennes |
Leaving the leafy avenues of the 16th arrondissement, the hiker crosses the Boulainvilliers district before emerging onto the vast expanse of the Champ de Mars. The Eiffel Tower then rises, marking the entrance to Les Invalides and its golden dome, a masterpiece of classical architecture. The walk continues through the Luxembourg Gardens, the green lung of the Latin Quarter, dominated by its palace and the imposing silhouette of the Panthéon, sanctuary of the nation's great figures. Descending towards the Seine, passing through the Gare d'Austerlitz marks the transition to a more modern and industrial Paris, symbolized by the Parc de Bercy and its renovated former wine warehouses. This urban route reveals a domesticated yet omnipresent nature, where historic gardens serve as havens for urban biodiversity.
Crossing Paris from west to east, from the Bois de Boulogne to the Bois de Vincennes, is a symbolic route connecting the capital's two major green lungs. The landscape presents a striking contrast between urban density and the preserved nature of the parks, emphasized by crossing the Seine and traversing the grand Haussmannian boulevards. The history of this route reflects the urban development of Paris, from former royal hunting grounds transformed into public gardens to the major public works of the 19th century. The two woods, remnants of forests, shelter a diverse flora typical of the plains of the Île-de-France region (oaks, horse chestnuts), while the fauna is that of the dense urban ecosystem, including squirrels and a rich birdlife on the lakes. This route offers a unique perspective on the evolution of the capital, blending historical monuments and recreational spaces.
