GR®364 From Poitou to Ocean

From Plein-Bois (Vienne) to Sables-d'Olonne (Vendee)

The GR364 trail traverses a mosaic of landscapes where water is ever-present, from the verdant valleys of Poitou to the vast expanses of the Marais Poitevin. The path follows ancient Roman roads and rural lanes, bearing witness to the importance of trade between the agricultural plains and the ports of the Vendée region. Romanesque abbeys, Renaissance castles, and charming villages like Lusignan and Vouvant dot the landscape, showcasing remarkable biodiversity, particularly in the Vendée bocage and marshes, which provide refuge for numerous migratory birds. The final stretch offers a striking contrast, where forest paths give way to the dunes and salty air of the Côte de Lumière (Coast of Light).
