From Chinon (Indre-et-Loire) to La Ribiere (Haute-Vienne)

Chinon is famous for its medieval castle, which served as a strategic site during the Hundred Years' War. The town is also known for its role in the history of Joan of Arc, who met Charles VII there in 1429. Hikers can admire historical remnants such as Romanesque churches, picturesque villages, and castles, which are witnesses to a rich architectural heritage. The numerous villages along the route are steeped in traditions and craftsmanship, notably the famous embroidery of Montmorillon. Hikers can observe a variety of wildlife, including deer, wild boars, and a multitude of birds such as the Eurasian Eagle-Owl and the Green Woodpecker. The region is also home to protected species, highlighting the importance of conserving these ecosystems. The flora is equally diverse, with undergrowth filled with ferns, mushrooms, and many species of wildflowers, such as orchids and anemones. Hikers may also encounter traditional hedgerows and orchards, which are representative of local agriculture. The landscapes transition from the vineyard areas of the Loire Valley to the wooded hills and limestone plateaus of Haute-Vienne.
