GR®654 Via Lemovicensis

From Gue-d'Hossus (Ardennes) to Saint-Palais (Pyrenees-Atlantiques)

The Via Lemovicensis, also known as the Limousin Way or the Vézelay Way, is one of the four main French routes of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. The Via Lemovicensis primarily follows ancient Roman roads and medieval paths, allowing pilgrims to walk in the footsteps of their ancestors. This route is less frequented than other French pilgrimage paths, providing a more peaceful and intimate experience for pilgrims. The path of the Via Lemovicensis is dotted with significant stages. Pilgrims can visit the Abbey of La Madeleine in Vézelay and admire its Romanesque architecture. They can then proceed to Limoges, a historic city famous for its fine porcelain and enamels. Other important stages include Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat, where pilgrims can visit the Romanesque Church of Saint-Léonard and the medieval Valhurie Bridge, Rocamadour, a village perched on a cliff with stunning views of the valley, and Cahors, a historic town with a medieval bridge spanning the Lot River.
