GR®654 EAST

From Bergerac (Dordogne) to Montreal-du-Gers (Gers)

>GR®654 EST Randonnée de Bergerac (Dordogne) à Montréal-du-Gers (Gers)

The GR®654 EST, also known as the Via Lemovicensis, follows ancient paths used by pilgrims for centuries. Bergerac is famous for its wine and medieval charm, characterized by its half-timbered houses. In Monbazillac, hikers can visit the château, an example of Renaissance architecture, where renowned sweet wines are produced. Continuing towards Castillonnès, the remnants of the bastide remind us of the medieval organization of towns, providing a fascinating insight into the region's history. Cancon, Saint-Pastour, and Pinel-Hauterive, with their churches and stone houses, reflect the rural and religious heritage. The trail continues through Castelmoron-sur-Lot, which stands on the banks of the Lot River. Further along, Clairac and Aiguillon boast ancient fortifications and churches. Vianne and Lavardac are two classic medieval bastides. Along the way, Barbaste and Mézin, rich in history, are also places where one can appreciate local gastronomy, especially dishes made with Agen prunes. Finally, Fourcès, with its unique circular shape, concludes this journey memorably, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
