From Avignon (Vaucluse) to Cabane-Vieille Pass (Gard)

The GR®63, stretching 149 km, begins in Avignon, a city celebrated for its majestic Palais des Papes and its iconic bridge. The hike continues towards Villeneuve-lez-Avignon, a charming medieval village with picturesque streets. Along the way, the trail passes through notable locations such as Rochefort-du-Gard, Saint-Hilaire-d’Ozilhan, and Castillon-du-Gard, offering numerous opportunities to explore the region’s rich cultural and architectural heritage. One of the highlights of this hike is the passage through the Pont du Gard, an impressive Roman aqueduct that showcases the ingenuity of ancient builders. The final part of the route, the most challenging, involves a climb towards the Col de la Cabane-Vieille. The trail winds through dense woods and steep slopes, providing stunning panoramic views of the Cévennes.
