The Coteaux du Lyonnais region is composed of rolling hills covered in vineyards, orchards, and forests. The Coteaux du Lyonnais are known for their red wines, which are produced from the Gamay grape. The history of the Coteaux du Lyonnais dates back to antiquity. The region was then inhabited by the Gauls, who cultivated grapes. The Romans later introduced improvements to the vineyard and developed the region. In the Middle Ages, the Coteaux du Lyonnais were an important winemaking center. Wines were exported throughout Europe. The region declined in the centuries that followed, but it experienced a revival in the 20th century.
