GR®534 Stanislas-Kleber trailFrom Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle) to Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin) |
A link between two imperial cities, Nancy and Strasbourg, this route owes its name to two emblematic figures: Stanislas Leszczynski, the last Duke of Lorraine, and General Jean-Baptiste Kléber, a Strasbourg hero of the Revolutionary Wars. The journey begins in the heart of the classical elegance of Place Stanislas, before venturing into the rolling landscapes of the Lorraine Plateau. The path leaves the agricultural plains to climb into beech and fir forests, where pink sandstone outcrops in the form of spectacular rock formations. Crossing the Saverne Pass marks a key stage, offering a panoramic view of the Alsatian plain. Castle heritage then takes center stage: the ruins of Haut-Barr Castle, nicknamed "the eye of Alsace," dominate the route. The descent towards Strasbourg follows a more domesticated but charming landscape, partly alongside the Marne-Rhine Canal.
