The town of Boussac, the starting point of the GR®303, is famous for its medieval castle, which dates back to the 15th century. This historical monument, with its towers and ramparts, tells the story of the lords who once ruled the region. The Terre des Bourbons is a French region located primarily in the Allier department, but it also extends into parts of Creuse and Puy-de-Dôme. Renowned for its rich history and cultural heritage, this region is the cradle of the Bourbon dynasty, one of the most famous royal families in France. The name Bourbon is associated with kings, queens, and influential historical figures. The region has also been marked by significant historical events, such as the Wars of Religion, where the Bourbons played key roles. The commune of Souvigny, with its abbey, bears witness to the close ties between the local nobility and the Church, and it is an important pilgrimage site.
