From Autun (Saone-et-Loire) to Nolay (Cote-d'Or)

Starting from Autun, hikers are immersed in a two-thousand-year-old past, marked by the remains of Augustodunum, the ancient "sister and rival of Rome," before climbing towards the Montagne de la Folie (Mountain of Madness). The trail marks the transition between the wooded foothills of the Morvan and the limestone plateaus of the Côte-d'Or. The landscapes unfold, alternating between dense deciduous forests, hedged meadows, and rocky escarpments offering panoramic views over the Saône plain. The built heritage is remarkable, punctuated by imposing castles like that of Couches and charming villages with glazed tile roofs. Nature expresses itself powerfully on the cliffs of Nolay, a major geological site where numerous birds of prey nest. This area, with its southern character, already hints at the prestigious wine-growing region. Between Celtic remains, medieval splendor and verdant valleys, the GR137 is an ode to authentic Burgundy.
