GR®105 Aure Valley Path

From Bazus-Neste to Ourdissetou Pass (Hautes-Pyrenees)

Français

An ancient pilgrimage route linking Piedmont to Aragon, this trail was a popular alternative for reaching Santiago de Compostela via the famous Port de Plan. History is ever-present, marked by centuries of exchanges between the French and Spanish valleys, governed by treaties of "lies et passeries" (rights and passages). Built heritage dots the route, from Romanesque churches with preserved murals and sundials to traditional outlying barns. Hikers traverse beech and fir forests before emerging into the high-altitude pastures of the Rioumajou valley. The trail winds its way under the watchful eyes of large birds of prey such as the bearded vulture and the golden eagle. The final ascent to the Port d'Ourdissétou reveals a magnificent, rocky landscape, offering a unique panorama of the Batchimale and Posets massifs.
