Around Templars and Hospitallers (Aveyron)

The GR®71C, a 77 km trail, traverses the stunning Causse du Larzac. Starting from La Cavalerie, a fortified village rich with the legacy of the Templars and Hospitallers, this hike immerses you in medieval history and the breathtaking landscapes of the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park. The path leads to L’Hospitalet-du-Larzac, a charming village that once served as a stopover for travelers. Here, houses cluster around a large square and a picturesque fountain. Next, you’ll encounter La Couvertoirade, a medieval village seemingly frozen in time, with well-preserved ramparts, a castle, and a church that narrate the tales of the Templars and Hospitallers. Continuing on, the trail takes you through Cornus, Saint-Jean-et-Saint-Paul, and Viala-du-Pas-de-Jaux, renowned for its impressive medieval tower. The final stretch of the route brings you to Sainte-Eulalie-de-Cernon, a former Templar commandery.
