From Verzenay (Marne) to Laon (Aisne)

The GR142 offers a captivating journey of nearly 100 km, linking the vineyards of Verzenay in the Marne to the medieval city of Laon in the Aisne. The trail crosses the prestigious vineyards of the Montagne de Reims, overlooked by the famous Verzenay lighthouse, before descending into cereal plains and wooded valleys. The path winds its way between Romanesque churches and limestone villages, culminating in the ascent of the "Crowned Mountain." The arrival in Laon offers breathtaking views of its ramparts and its Gothic cathedral with five towers. In terms of natural beauty, the route alternates between beech forests, wetlands along the Aisne River, and calcareous grasslands sheltering rare flora. It is a transitional route, where the tranquility of the Champagne undergrowth gives way to the majesty of the Picardy plateau.
