Starting from the Winter City of Arcachon, the trail begins by exploring the salt marshes and the Teich bird reserve, a true haven for migratory birds. Heading towards Biganos and Audenge, hikers pass through authentic oyster-farming ports lined with colorful huts, reflecting centuries-old expertise. As you approach Andernos-les-Bains, known for its Gallo-Roman coastal ruins, the landscape shifts into a mosaic of mudflats and oyster beds. Nature reclaims its dominance between Arès and the salt marsh reserves before the path leads into the maritime pine forests of Lège-Cap-Ferret. The wild coastline then unfolds, offering spectacular views of the majestic Dune of Pilat and the passes at the bay's entrance. Here, the region's maritime heritage is vividly displayed through historic lighthouses and the classic seaside architecture of the Belle Époque.

A true jewel of the Gironde, the Arcachon Bay is an Atlantic lagoon where nature operates on the schedule of the tides. This unique territory is dominated by the majestic Dune of Pilat, Europe's tallest sand dune, whose ridge offers a striking contrast between the vast ocean and the canopy of the Landes forest. The bay's history is deeply intertwined with oyster farming; expansive oyster beds and iconic, colorful wooden huts define the local architectural heritage. Oyster ports like those in Gujan-Mestras and L'Herbe tell the story of centuries of maritime skill and authentic local life. At the heart of this small inland sea, Bird Island (Île aux Oiseaux) and its famous "cabanes tchanquées" (stilted huts) stand proudly above the waters, symbolizing the fragility of this ecosystem. The Teich bird reserve and ephemeral sandbanks, such as the Arguin bank, harbor a rare wealth of biodiversity, making the bay a vital sanctuary for migratory birds. On the heritage front, the Winter City of Arcachon showcases eccentric 19th-century villas, testaments to the golden age of the first seaside resorts.
