GR®76BFrom Martrat (Le Rousset) to Tournus (Saone-et-Loire) |
Crossing the hidden hills of the Haut-Mâconnais, the trail meanders between the forested massifs of the Côte Chalonnaise and the hedged landscapes of Burgundy, offering sweeping views of the Grosne Valley. This route, winding between budding vineyards and golden stone churches, is a true immersion in medieval history, marked by the influence of the Cluny order and the presence of Romanesque art at every turn. Built heritage forms the guiding thread of this journey, with key stops such as Sigy-le-Châtel, a charming village perched on its rocky spur, and Malay. Nearby, the shadow of La Ferté Abbey, the first daughter house of Cîteaux, recalls the spiritual and agricultural power of the Cistercian monks in the region. The arrival in Tournus, dominated by the majestic Saint-Philibert Abbey, concludes this journey with a masterpiece of early Romanesque architecture.
