The GR98 begins at La Madrague, a small picturesque port located east of Marseille. The path runs along the coast and crosses the famous Calanques, deep coves with steep cliffs where the sea rushes into wild and preserved settings, such as the Calanque d’En-Vau. The route continues towards Cassis, with its lively port and colorful houses, then to Roquefort-la-Bédoule, a perched village offering panoramic views of the coast and the hinterland. The landscapes diversify with pine forests, fragrant scrubland, and terraced vineyards. As you ascend towards Plan-d’Aups-Sainte-Baume, the trail crosses wilder and more preserved areas. Finally, the path reaches the Col du Pilon, the highest point of the route, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the Mediterranean Sea.
