Tour of the Gaston Bachelard Country (Aube) |
Starting in Bar-sur-Aube, this hike follows in the footsteps of the philosopher Gaston Bachelard. The trail climbs towards Bergères and Urville, in the heart of the Côte des Bar vineyards. In Urville, Cistercian history comes alive in the renowned cellars of the Drappier house. Passing through Bligny and Meurville, hikers are immersed in a tranquil, rolling landscape. Small rivers meander through the valleys, creating a peaceful and wild setting. The route through Spoy and its Roman bridge recalls the ancient importance of the Via Agrippa. The itinerary continues towards Proverville, revealing superb views over the Aube Valley. Between deciduous forests and Pinot Noir plots, the landscape is an ode to Champagne. The route celebrates "water and dreams," themes dear to Bachelard's writer.
A philosopher of science and a poet of the imagination, Gaston Bachelard revolutionized French thought with his dual approach to reality. In its epistemological dimension, he theorized the notion of the epistemological obstacle, asserting that science progresses through successive "ruptures" against the prejudices of common sense. Simultaneously, this humanist thinker explored the psychology of the mind through profound meditation on the four elements: fire, water, air, and earth. His works, such as *The Poetics of Space*, invite an active reverie where imagination is not a mere escape, but a creative faculty essential to humankind. A native of Bar-sur-Aube, this former postal worker retained a simplicity and affability that permeate his writing, making his philosophy both scholarly and accessible. By reconciling the rigor of the atom with the magic of the flame, he built a unique bridge between scientific rationality and literary sensibility.
