The ascent of Mont Ventoux via the summit traverses a unique ecosystem, marking the border between the Drôme and Vaucluse departments. This "Giant of Provence" is a designated Biosphere Reserve. The landscape is spectacular, evolving from Mediterranean scrubland at its base to an almost lunar landscape of white scree at the summit. The history of Ventoux is renowned, notably for Petrarch's ascent in 1336 and its legendary role in the stages of the Tour de France. The flora unfolds in layers: from vineyards and lavender fields to dense cedar and beech forests, before reaching the low-lying, alpine vegetation of the summit cone. The fauna is rich in birds of prey and insects specific to arid high-altitude environments, offering hikers an unforgettable panorama.
