GR®14BFrom Outines (Marne) to Locheres (Meuse) |
The GR 14B offers a picturesque crossing of the Marne, Haute-Marne, and Meuse departments, linking the Outines ponds to the edge of the Argonne forest at Lochères. The landscape is one of marked transition, ranging from agricultural plains and valleys (Saulx) to the deep forest massifs of the east. The trail is dotted with quiet villages and major historical sites, such as the majestic Cistercian abbey of Trois-Fontaines, a testament to a rich religious history. The history of the route is steeped in the broader history of France, particularly in Sainte-Menehould and the Argonne woods, which bear witness to past conflicts. The flora is diverse, ranging from the reeds of the wetlands (where the birdlife is exceptional) to vast beech and oak forests. Wildlife is present, including big game and waterfowl, making this route a complete immersion in the natural and historical heritage of these regions.
